Subject to final approval of the funds, Furtwangen University is offering a post-doc position as academic staff within the research project “MiMEndo” of Prof. Dr. Markus Egert (Microbiology and Hygiene) at the Institute of Precision Medicine of the Faculty III: Health, Medical and Life Sciences. We are currently looking for a:
Molecular Microbiologist (m / f / d)
with specialisation in Human Microbiomics
We offer a fixed-term (“temp”-) contract until the 31st of December 2028. Working hours per week will be 39.5 (100 %). Employment conditions and pay are regulated by the German TV-L collective bargaining agreement for public sector employees of the states (Tarifvertrag öffentlicher Dienst der Länder).
This position can allow for a classification up to TV-L salary group E13, depending on whether the candidate meets the necessary qualifications to handle all the assigned task of this position as intended.
The primary work place for this position is located at the campus Villingen-Schwenningen. However, the ability and readiness to perform position-related task at the other campuses is expected.
The earliest possible date of entry would be the 01.02.2026.
Project partners include the university of applied sciences in Kaiserslautern, the MVZ Institute for Microecology in Herborn, and two clinics specialising in endometriosis. The position is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in application-oriented human microbiome research.
Candidates must have provable experience in modern microbiome (-omics) research technologies, such as metataxonomics, metagenomics or metatranscriptomics. Bioinformatic, programming and computer skills (R, Python, QIIME etc.) are of advantage. In addition, excellent language proficiencies in English and at least good proficiencies in German (written and spoken) are required.

Your tasks will include:
The successful candidate will work in a BMFTR-funded project dealing with possible links between endometriosis and the structure and function of the human microbiome. The work plan includes NGS-based molecular microbiome analyses of a variety of human samples and correlation of the results with patient metabolome and health-related metadata in order to facilitate the diagnosis of endometriosis and to deepen the understanding how microbiome, metabolome and the enteric nervous system interact in patients with endometriosis.Project partners include the university of applied sciences in Kaiserslautern, the MVZ Institute for Microecology in Herborn, and two clinics specialising in endometriosis. Your background and qualifications:
Candidates with a doctorate or PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioanalytics or related fields can apply.Candidates must have provable experience in modern microbiome (-omics) research technologies, such as metataxonomics, metagenomics or metatranscriptomics.
